Why 555 Kelly?

For generations, farmworkers have been the backbone of the Coastside, nurturing the land, growing our food, and sustaining the agricultural heritage that defines Half Moon Bay. Their dedication, often working into their 60s, 70s, and 80s, has enriched our lives and contributed significantly to the region.
Now, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to honor that lifetime of service.
This proposal is our community making its promise of gratitude real, ensuring those who fed us can finally age with dignity.

HONOR THOSE WHO FEED OUR COMMUNITY
The proposal ensures local senior farmworkers can retire with dignity and stability close to family and friends, honoring their decades of vital service to Half Moon Bay’s agricultural heritage.
A ONCE-IN-A-GENERATION OPPORTUNITY
This project uses rare, city-owned land for the public good, creating 40 affordable senior homes that directly advance the City’s affordable housing goals and meet the commitment to better housing after the 2023 mass shooting.
AGING WITH DIGNITY CLOSE TO FAMILY
The homes allows senior farmworkers, many of whom have lived and worked on the Coastside for decades, to age in place near their children and grandchildren, preventing displacement from the community they helped build.
STRENGTHENING OUR COMMUNITY
The proposal includes a Community Resource Center (CRC) operated by the trusted nonprofit Ayudando Latinos a Soñar (ALAS) to provide essential supportive services for senior farmworkers and a multi-purpose space for the wider Coastside community.
SMART USE OF PUBLIC RESOURCES
This is a fiscally responsible investment that leverages state funding and Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, meaning the desperately needed affordable housing is created without spending any local general funds.
