Q1: Are you a realtor, renter, landlord, home owner, and/or housing developer?

A: Home Owner

Q2: What is your position on new market-rate housing and why do you hold that position?

A: For our small coastal city with infrastructure challenges, I believe we should respect our growth control ordinance and limit growth to 1%/year (1.5% in the downtown).

Q3: What policies do you support to increase production of housing at all levels of affordability?

A: For low-income housing, we need to use the City’s affordable housing fund and what little City owned land we have to produce more workforce housing.

Q4: What policies in your housing element do you want to prioritize implementing? (You can see a list of HLC’s priority housing element policies for all cities HERE)

A: Increasing the stock of workforce/low income housing.  Encouraging housing in the downtown area.  Encouraging infill development. Taking advantage of our Opportunity Sites for new development.

Q5: The agricultural community in Half Moon Bay depends heavily on farmworkers, many of whom face a severe lack of dignified affordable housing. The need for this housing is unquestionable, farmworkers need homes near their work. Unfortunately, housing for vulnerable communities receives strong opposition from some community members. How would you support the needs of farmworkers while navigating opposition to new homes?

A: I am in strong support of senior farmworker housing at 555 Kelly.  We need to take the public’s input but ultimately the decision to go ahead with the project is the responsibility of our City Council.

Similarly, the County’s development of Stone Pine Cove for farmworkers affected by the recent shootings needs our strong support.

Q6: If elected, what policies, if any, would you support to strengthen just cause for eviction protections?

A: We have enacted a tenant protection ordinance to protect our renters.  This includes relocation assistance and a City-financed dispute resolution process.

Q7: Many tenants have reported harassment and fear retaliation by their landlords because of reporting habitability violations. If elected, how will you respond to this issue?

A: We have put in place a dispute resolution process with protections against retaliation by landlords.

Q8: What do you believe are meaningful solutions to addressing encampments while protecting the safety and dignity of our unhoused population?

A: We have developed the only homeless shelter on the Coastside which provides interim housing.  We need to deal with encampments by encouraging the unhoused to come in from the street to this shelter.

Q9: Do you support protecting and increasing funding for rental assistance? How will you ensure this funding is adequate to meet the needs of renters?

A: We have enacted a rent control ordinance and are one of only two cities in the County to offer this protection to our renters.  We are also supporting Core Agencies like Coastside Hope which provides emergency rental assistance.

Q10: What is your position on Prop 5?

A: I support it as a way to increase future funding for housing projects.

Q11: What is your position on Prop 33?

A: I support it and if it passes will use it to broaden our rent control ordinance.

Q12: What are recent state laws related to housing, if any, that you support and why?

A: For the most part, I am not in favor of state laws related to housing as we in the City know best what our housing needs are.
