Empowering Communities in Housing Governance

Summary

participants embarked on a transformative journey into local housing policy change on May 6, exploring an innovative model that facilitated community and government collaboration and developed trusting, effective partnerships for creating and implementing equitable housing policies. This model ensured community leaders had a seat at the table and could better understand the inner workings of government, ensuring those usually excluded from government and policymaking were at the center of efforts for change.

This session provided a deep dive into how this community-government partnership meaningfully addressed equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism within housing policy. Attendees discovered how these partnerships facilitated systemic change and structural reforms, as well as the “all-in” approach of cross-sector collaboration and solidarity, showcasing the model’s potential to bring various stakeholders together for meaningful change.

The potential of this innovative model to revolutionize housing policy was explored, ensuring equitable access to homes, health, and prosperity for all Californians. Together, we worked towards a California where everyone benefits from fair and inclusive housing policies.
