Affordable Housing Month 2020

Affordable Housing Month 2020

Every year, HLC and our partners dedicate the month of May to affordable housing. Through multiple events scattered throughout the month, we engage hundreds of housing supporters around San Mateo County to collectively learn, mobilize, and understand the positive and extensive impact affordable housing brings. We do this by offering the opportunity of attending informative workshops, groundbreakings, housing policy panels, affordable housing tours, and more. Most of all, we come together to recognize the ongoing efforts and power of our local partners and communities.

Due to COVID-19, HLC will not be hosting any in-person events during Affordable Housing Month. We will however continue the momentum of our collective work by hosting virtual events and providing engaging at-home activities.  Now is the time to put into practice what Building Community Wellness means by taking care of ourselves, our neighbors, community members, and loved ones. Our current circumstances have shown us that our places of home allow us to remain healthy and that housing solutions exponentially increase healthier outcomes for all. The need for more affordable housing has never been as apparent.

Affordable Housing Podcast

In partnership with Housing Leadership Council of San Mateo County’s Affordable Housing Month, Eden Housing has launched the 100th episode of the Affordable Housing Podcast: Addressing the Housing Crisis During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Spotify: https://bit.ly/EdenAHP

iTunes: https://bit.ly/EHAHP

In this 100th episode of the Affordable Housing Podcast, brought to you by Eden Housing, host Joanne Greene speaks to Assemblymember Marc Berman (D-24). Assemblymember Berman speaks about the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on affordable housing, and he emphasizes that the crises we’re already facing, including the housing crisis, homelessness crisis, and climate change, have not disappeared. As he says, “we know we did a good job last year of passing policies to protect tenants, but we did not do enough on the housing production side, and we just can’t wait another year.”
