Housing Leadership Day was on October 25, 2024!
For over 20 years, Housing Leadership Day (HLD) has been a crucial platform for sharing knowledge and tools to bring affordable homes to our neighborhoods. HLD 2024 was be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, at The South San Francisco Conference Center.
As in previous years, we invited housing advocates, policymakers, developers, and community leaders from across San Mateo County to join us in exploring innovative solutions to our housing and homelessness challenges.

Keynote Speaker: Rev. Dr. Marlyn Bussey
Rev. Dr. Marlyn Bussey is the Pastor of St. James African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Zion Church, Co-Director of the Peninsula Solidarity Cohort and Founder and Executive Director of the St. James Community Development Corporation. Dr. Busseys’ passion for providing affordable housing began years ago when she was a high school counselor. Working with foster youth aging out of the system created a burden in her heart that these young people needed a helping hand to reach a successful, sustainable future. New Beginnings Residential Village is the collective response of Dr. Bussey and the St. James congregation.
Housing Leader Awardee: Ayudando Latinos a Soñar (ALAS)
Ayudando Latinos a Soñar (ALAS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting and empowering Latino communities in Half Moon Bay and the surrounding areas. Through services ranging from mental health support to education, advocacy, and affordable housing initiatives, ALAS has been at the forefront of championing farmworker rights and offering a critical lifeline to the community’s most vulnerable.
