Housing is Environmental Justice | La Vivienda es Justicia Ambiental

Summary

On May 13, in partnership with Menlo Together, this event featured a focus on safe and secure housing, emerging as a top priority among hundreds of community members in the Belle Haven neighborhood of Menlo Park, an area impacted by redlining, pollution, and climate change. This led to the inclusion of tenant protection programs and fair housing strategies in the city’s Housing Element. Similarly, San Mateo County, East Palo Alto, Burlingame, and other areas in California worked on environmental justice elements as required by state law. The session covered advancing housing affordability, fair housing, and tenant protections by engaging residents in identifying environmental injustices and building coalitions to support city policy solutions.
